Electrical Engineering Department of the institute, is one of the reputed departments in the state of Maharashtra. The department is permanently affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). It runs UG, PG (Electrical Power Systems) and Ph.D. programs. UG program started in 1991 and is accredited Fourth Time by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) with recent accreditation valid till year 2025.

The Department of Electrical Engineering aims to impart quality education for developing Electrical Engineers to cater the needs of society and mankind. The department observes ethical practices in teaching-learning and research. Department has a team of well qualified, highly experienced, dedicated and motivated faculty members. Our faculty members are involved in research in upcoming modern areas of electrical engineering such as Electric Vehicles, Renewable Energy Systems, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence techniques etc. At Electrical department students get enriched through various developmental co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The department is committed to provide quality education to students and make students modern industry ready.

Electrical Engineering Department:

Electrical Engineering Department of the institute, is one of the reputed departments in the state of Maharashtra. The department is permanently affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). It runs UG, PG (Electrical Power Systems) and Ph.D. programs. UG program started in 1991 and is accredited 4 times by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) with recent accreditation valid till year 2025. PG program introduced in 2000 is also accredited by NBA once. The department also has a Ph.D. research center since 2005. The department is well equipped with fully functional laboratories in the domain of Power Systems, Power Electronics Drives and Control, Microcontroller, PLC and SCADA, Switchgear & Protection, Renewable Energy System etc. In addition to these, department also has established state of the art laboratories in collaboration with industries and academic institutions to cater needs for advanced research. These include Dr. M. Kattakkar Post Graduate Research lab,  e-Yantra Embedded Robotics lab,  Texas Instrument Drives and Control lab, Electrical Vehicle Testing lab developed under MODROBs under AICTE research grants.

Department has a team of well qualified, highly experienced and dedicated faculty members. More than 50% of the faculty members are with Ph.D. qualification. Many faculty members hold key positions at various bodies of SPPU, contributing in curriculum design and development. Faculty members are office bearers of PES-IAS Chapter of IEEE Pune Section and are actively involved in organizing technical activities at national and international level. The department has a rich culture of research and faculty members regularly publish research papers at reputed international platforms. They are involved in research activities sponsored by renowned research organizations like DRDO, DST, AICTE etc.  Faculty is also involved in consultancy and testing assignments with the industries. The faculty members are well connected with industries and regularly invited as experts for delivering sessions. The department has research collaborations and MoUs with reputed industries like MSEDCL, Dassault Systems, SeeGreen energy etc. Atlas Copco has recognized the department of Electrical Engineering by selecting it for award of Kruttika scholarship to female topper from the department offering a scholarship of RS. 50,000/- alongwith the job offer.

Multi talented students is one of the biggest strength of the department. Many students are rank holders in university examinations. They acquire several skills through sponsored projects and internships at renowned industries. They participate in various technical and non-technical competitions and won prizes. As its outcome, there is a blend of students recruitment in the industry and higher education in prestigious institution in India and abroad. The department has formed the “Electrical Engineering Students’ Association” (EESA) which is managed by the students and guided by the staff members. It organizes various co-curricular, extra-curricular and social activities such as, industrial visits, guest lectures, technical competitions, exhibition, blood donation camp etc. EESA publishes its annual magazine ‘OHM’ which consists of technical and non-technical articles and artwork by students. It also manages its own library. Recently the association has celebrated its Silver Jubilee.  The department has a strong bond with the alumni who are excelling in varied fields. They contribute to the department through projects, trainings, guest lectures etc. The Department thus impart quality education for developing Electrical Engineers to cater the needs of society and mankind through outcome based education, ethical practices in teaching-learning and sustained endeavors to groom and nurture students.

Testing and Consultations

Training Modules

Department has planned to start short and industry oriented course suitable for students or professionals who are: having a

1. Diploma in Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering.
2. BE / B.Tech or equivalent in domains such as Automotive, Mechanical, EEE, ECE, Instrumentation, Mechatronics.
3. Automotive enthusiasts (No academic qualification mandatory)
4. Industry professionals – working in industries such as Automotive, Auto component, Design, Manufacturing, etc
5. Working in Functional areas such as R&D, Analysis, Maintenance, Projects, component design etc.
6. Interested in pursuing further studies on the part-time or full-time basis in Automotive, Electrical, Electronics, and Mechanics sector.

The training programs will help learners acquire skills relevant to manufacturing processes. Moreover, they will be able to use complete battery and vehicle assembly, learn about the pros and cons of various motors used in EVs, understand energy storage systems and set up charging infrastructure. They will also gain knowledge on EV policy. The programme tends to equip students and professionals with multidisciplinary expertise and increase the practical exposure with the tools and functioning of the Electric vehicle via small workshop prototypes. This program follows the practical approach of learning (PLA model) to educate and offer cutting edge training to prepare engineers for the future industry workforce demand.

Department has also developed 2 kW set up of EV Demonstration Setup to carry out the EV related experiments.

Memorandum of Understanding between PVG’s COET &GKPIOM and Belrise Industries Ltd.

 Department has signed MOU with BELRISE INDUSTRIES LIMITED, Pune on 30^th November 2022 to explore the opportunities in testing, developments and research in upcoming Electrical Vehicle industry. Through this MOU Faculty interactions, student internships, Trainings, BE projects, job opportunities are explored. This MOU facilitated students of Electrical, Mechanical, and E & TC departments through Internships, Projects, Placement offers etc.

•  Through the Mou, Belrise Industries Ltd. carried out work for indigenous development of motor and controller for Electric Vehicles. In the year 2023, Department also procured Ansys Maxwell  perpetual license of five nodes for the purpose of analysis.

Doctorate in Electrical Engineering

The Electrical Engineering Department of COET is approved as a ‘Post Graduate Research Center in Electrical Engineering’ by University of Pune since July 2005. Ten Students have completed Ph.D and 07 students have already registered for Ph.D.

The research activities in the department are funded by agencies like DST, DRDO etc. The research centre also has close association with MSEB for various activities. Post Graduate in Electrical Engineering

The Post-graduate course in Electrical Engineering was first introduced in August 2000. Fourteen batches of Postgraduate students have completed their terms. Results of earlier batches are encouraging. Many students of earlier batches have completed their post-graduation with first class and first class with distinction in the two years’ span. Uptill now total 148 students have completed their Post Graduation from this department. Adding to its excellence this Course was N.B.A accredited for three years for the period September 2013 –August 2016. Many candidates are GATE qualified and they receive scholarship from AICTE, New Delhi and UGC.

Post Graduate students are actively involved in sponsored research projects funded by various funding agencies. The department also has good liaison with industry through Post Graduate projects.

• Since 2011-12, every year, female topper from T.E. Electrical class, is awarded by Atlas Copcowith a scholarship of Rs. 50,000/- towards “Female Engineer Scholarship Award – Kruttika”.

• Pratik Kaldhone of BE Electrical secured 5^th Rank in CGPA Rank list of April / May 2024 Examinations conducted by The Rank list is declared on 26.11.2025
• Mr Sudarshan Bangar, TE Electrical, completed the Lokmat Maha Marathon Pune (21 km in 1.43 hrs,  venue: SPPU, Pune) on Sunday, 22 February 2026  and achieved the accolades of among the Top 50 Finishers.
• Third-year Electrical Engineering student Uday Kadve won a consolation prize in the state-level elocution competition organized by Sanskar Mandir Sanstha’s Arts and Commerce College on 16 February 2026, where he spoke on the topic “Artificial Intelligence: Imagination and Reality.”
• The INNOVEXA team, consisting of six interdisciplinary students from the college, has secured a place in the final round of the national competition Smart India Hackathon 2025. The team includes Vedant Charegaonkar and Sanika Phalle, from TE Electrical and Sanyuri Jamdade, from SE Electrical. They were selected for the final round after successfully clearing multiple rounds and evaluations.
• Piyush Bagul from BE 2025-26 and Ms. Aishwarya Valsa from BE 2024-26 are placed in companies Topy Inudstries and Takasago Thermal Engineering, Japan respectively, through Asia to Japan, Fast Offer Program and AtoJ Hirameki.

Academic Year 2024-25

• Rohit Vinod Bari of Electrical Engineering is awarded Gold Medals by Savitribai Phule Pune Unversity for having secured the highest number of marks and stood First based on CGPA (9.79), at the B.E. (Electrical) examination April/May 2023.
• Piyush Mahajan (2^nd Rank), Akshay Badhe (5^th Rank), Sneha Adke (9^th Rank) and Ashraf Shaikh (10^th Rank) appeared in the CGPA based rank list of SPPU for April / May 2023
• Seven students of Electrical engineering secured ranks in SGPA rank list for BE Electrical Examination of April / May 2023. Recognitions in Projects

• Bhuvanesh Kulkarni sir has given donation of Rs 3 lakh to Pune Vidyarthi Griha. From the interest of this donation, prizes are given to best projects from Electrical Engineering department. The prize money will be utilized for the hardware requirement of the projects. These prizes are given in the Memory of Late Ravindra Prabhakar Kulkarni and this is a continuous activity for 15 years.

Following Project groups of 2023-24 are awarded with the prize –

• Students from TE Electrical, Shantanu Yadav, Neeraj Somvanshi, Prabhakar Bhosale and Abhishek Ghodke received 2^nd Prize in the Hardware Category in the project competition INVENTECH 24, organized by IIC of the institute in October 2024. The project was guided by Dr. M. S. Thakare.

Academic Year 2023-24

• Gaurav Patil from BE Electrical 2022-23 batch secured 67^th Rank in GATE 2024 exam.
• Adiya Yeole of 2020-21 batch has secured First Rank in OBC category in MPSC Maharashtra Engineering Services Examination 2022 and got selected at Maharashtra Jalsampada Vibhag (WRD) as Class 2 officer. Result declared in September 2023.
• Bhusha Tilawat of 2015 batch has secured Second Rank in OPEN category in MPSC Maharashtra Engineering Services Examination 2022 got selected at CPWD, Pune. Result declared in September 2023.

• Engineers Day was celebrated on 15^th September 2023. Following projects of students of Electrical Engineering (AY 2022-23) were awarded as Best Projects by Mr. Bhuvanesh Kulkarni in the memory of Late Ravindra Prabhakar Kulkarni. Students received a certificate and cash prize.

Academic Year 2022-23

• The E-yantra team secured the 4^th place in International level Robotics Competition EYRC 22-23, organized by IIT Bombay. The team comprised of Aditya Yeole and Atharva Bharti from BE Electrical and Pranav Shinde from BE IT . They competed with 370 teams under their theme.. from– E yantra

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (EESA)

 Electrical Engineering Students’ Association (EESA) was formed in the year 1993. EESA organizes many activities, such as, organizing guest lectures, industrial visits, co-curricular and extra –curricular events, etc. throughout the year. EESA publishes its annual souvenir “OHM’ every year. EESA maintains students’ library in the Electrical department, which consists of text books, reference books, proceedings of national and international conferences and journals. • Felicitation of Our alumina Mr Ajinkya Naik, an industry Process Consultant at Dassault Systems and Mr Salim Huzefa, an industry Process Consultant Director at Dassault Systems was arranged on 6^th May 2022. In this function the students who worked in V lab development, and eYantra were also felicited along with Dr Mrs. U S Thakar, Dr. S T Gaikawad who completed their PhD successfully last year.

 Following activities are conducted during Academic Year 2019-20:

• Various curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities are organized for students through Electrical Engineering Students’ Association (EESA). Prof. Mrs. U. S. Thakar and Prof. Mrs. K. M. Kurundkar, worked as EESA staff advisors for the year 2019-20.
• Students of EESA committee members conducted activity Creating Awareness about Safety Precautions to avoid Electrical Hazards In Ganesh Mandals during 2nd to 12th September 2019. Students created awareness among Ganesh devotees regarding Electrical safety, Precautions to be followed during Ganesh festival and Electrical Hazard that may be caused by improper Electrical safety majors taken by the organizers.
• Students of EESA committee members conducted activity of e-Waste collection during December 2019 and March 2020. E-waste is collected and submitted to Purnam Center at Karvenagar, Pune.
• Students of EESA committee members conducted activity during safety week. They created awareness regarding electrical safety on 14th January 2020 in Muktangan school. They put posters in the campus of PVG’s COET, Pune.

4. On 20th January 2020, guest lecture by Alumini, Mr. Srinivas Patwardhan was organized ‘Enabling control of artificial limbs in amputees’ for BE students.
5. EESA in association with PES-IAS Chapter, IEEE,Pune organized Distinguish Lecture on 29th January 2020, on ‘Current interruption in Atmospheric Air ’ by Dr.David Peelo sinour consultant for BE students.37 students from other colleges also attended this guest lecture.
6. On 5th Feb, 2020, Guest lecture by Mr. Manoj Badve from TATA motors on ‘Energy Conservation in Industrial Environment’ was organized by for TE students for the subject of Energy Audit.

• Various curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities are organized for students through Electrical Engineering Students’ Association (EESA). Prof. O. S. Pawaskar and Prof. Mrs. U. S. Thakar, worked as EESA staff advisors for the year 2018-19. This year holds a special significance as it is the silver jubilee year (25 years of service) since the inception of our student body EESA.

• “GURUPOORNIMA” function was organized by EESA on 19^th September, 2018. Dr. Mrs. V. A. Joshi guided students.
• EESA Inauguration function was organized on 2^nd August, 2018 by the hands of chief guest of this function, Dr. Priyadarshini Karve, CEO, Samuchit Enviro Tech. The EESA committee was formally introduced during this event. This was followed by a cultural event where students of SE, TE and BE Electrical gave dance and singing performances.
• During 8, 9, 10^th September 2018, “Electrabuzz” the annual event of the Electrical Department was organized where various cultural, sports events were organized. ELECTRABUZZ ’18 was a grand success with 15 competitions constituting of 1200+ participants from various colleges. The annual fest events were organized for three days. Fortune Hunter; Basketball; Box cricket; Cric auction; Cricket; Debate; Fan quiz; Poster design; Technodumbs; Connect the dots; Football; PUBG; Mock Placement; Checkmate; Chitragraphy competitions were part of this event. The motto for ELECTRABUZZ ’18 was “from harmonics to harmony” which indeed resonates with the ultimate aim of moving from disorderliness to discipline.
• Yogendra Talware from Strom Energie delivered a guest lecture on “Tariff-effective DSM tool for Energy Conservation” on 30th Jan 2019.This Lecture was attended by SE, TE, BE Electrical Engineering students along with the faculty members.

• On 22^nd October, 2018, students from SE and TE Electrical Engineering (EESA) performed dance program for Sinour citizens at Shatayu Bhava and Celebrated KOJAGIRI Poornima with them.
• Cloth donation drive activity was successfully completed in coordination with Approach Foundation from 1^st to 3^rd April 2019.
• Three students from TE class participated in one day workshop for Youth on Carbon Neutral Campus organized by Yuva Drishti on 16/09/2018.
• Every year, female topper from T.E. Electrical class, is awarded by Atlas Copco with a scholarship of Rs. 50,000/- towards “Female Engineer Scholarship Award – Kruttika”. This event is jointly organized by EESA on 14^th March, 2019. This year 2018-19, Pranjal Wagh had received this prestigious award.
• Department of Electrical Engineering organized one day workshop on “Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning” on 29^th March 2019.Students from S.E,T.E and B.E Electrical Engineering with many faculty members attended this workshop .Dr. Mrs. Surekha Deshmukh and Dr. Rahee Walambe were invited resource persons for this workshop.

• BE project Group guided by Prof.Mrs.Kalyani Kurundkar represented college at MHRD,AICTE, i4c and Persistant Systems. ltd sponsored ‘SMART INDIA HACKATHON’ Hardware project competition. This project is shortlisted as one of the 1000 projects, for the next round of video clip which will be sent in May,2019, out of 20,000 project applications. This team comprises of Aishwarya Gore, Mihir Paygude, Avinash Maykar, Arjun Mandavkar from BE Electrical, Chinmay Relkar from BE I.T and Chaitanya Shah from T.E Electrical.
• B.E Students Aishwarya Gore, Mihir Paygude, Avinash Maykar and Arjun Mandavkar along with their project guide Prof. Kalyani Kurundkar have represented PVG’s COET at AVISHKAR’18, State level Project competition between the Universities. They were shortlisted and completed, Stage 1: Enrolment and Shortlisting of Ideas, Stage 2: Poster Presentation (District Level) on 14th Dec,2018. Stage 3: University Level on 2nd Jan,2019.

Guest Lectures Organized during academic year 2025-26:

• On 15^th October 2025, a lecture on ‘Permanent Magnet Machines – Design and Applications’ by industry expert Dr. Priyanka Bastawde-Golatgaonkar, an alumnus and Lead Engineer (Electro-Mechanical Design) at Vestas, Germany, was organized for third-year Electrical Engineering students. The lecture was organized by Prof. Uday Sarode.
• An expert lecture on the topic “Design of DC-DC Converter, Inverter, AC Voltage Regulator & SMPS” was organized for TE Electrical Students on Saturday, 11^th October 2025 during 2:00 pm – 4.30 pm. The lecture was conducted by Shri Vivek Aranke. The lecture was organized under the subject Power Electronics of TE Electrical (2019 PAT). Total 62 students attended the Prof. Mrs P. R. Khatri coordinated the activity.
• An expert lecture on the topic “Applications of Microcontrollers in Power Electronics” was organized for TE Electrical Students on Saturday, 11^th October 2025 during 10.30 pm – 12.30 pm. The lecture was conducted by Mr. Vedant Wankhede, alumnus of 2018-19 batch. The lecture was organized under the Elective subject Advanced Microcontroller and Embedded Systems of TE Electrical (2019 PAT). Total 43 students attended the Prof. Mrs R. A. Ranjekar coordinated the activity.
• An expert lecture on the topic “Electrical and Hybrid Vehicles” was organized for BE Electrical Students on 9^th October 2025 during 1.00 pm – 3.00 pm. The lecture was conducted by Prof. Ravikant Nanwatkar. Total 58 students attended the Dr. S. T. Gaikwad coordinated the activity.
• On 7^th October 2025, an IEEE IAS Distinguished Lecturer Program on ‘Condition Monitoring of Electrical Assets in Smart Grid’ by Dr. Bala Krishnan Deputy Director, Singapore Institute of Technology,  Teaching and Learning Academy Singapore, was organized for TE Electrical Engineering students. • Department has signed MoU with the Konkan Railways Corporation, Navi Mumbai. This year 14 Students of SE Electrical and 02 Students from TE Electrical attended a 5-day training program with Konkan Rail Academy, Madgaon, Goa from 15^th January 2024 to 19^th January 2024, under the banner of “SEPS: Skilling Engineers for Professional Success“. Dr. M. S. Thakare played key role for designing the contents and organizing of trainings and internships for Electrical students. S. H. Yamalla accompanied the students during this program.
